Project Description: Volunteers will be assisting homeowners affected by the recent tornadoes that have swept across several states in the Midwest and Southern U.S. Teams will be assisting with tree, debris removal and roof tarping.

Background Information: Powerful storm systems swept through the central and southern United States Sunday and Monday, killing at least 29 people and causing widespread devastation in more than half a dozen states. On Sunday, severe weather wreaked havoc in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Iowa. Most of the destruction took place in Arkansas, where a deadly twister touched down in Faulkner County, northwest of Little Rock, the state capital. Entire neighborhoods were wiped out in the towns of Mayflower and Vilonia. On Monday, a storm system produced tornadoes in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. At least 11 people were killed. Severe weather remains in the forecast, with weather warnings in effect throughout much of the country.

Additional Information: Meals and sleeping quarters will be provided for overnight volunteers. Volunteers need to bring twin size air mattress or cot, linens/sleeping bag, pillow, towels and personal hygiene items. Tools will be provided, but volunteers may bring their own tool belts and small hand tools. If bringing their own chainsaw volunteers will also need to bring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Volunteers should dress in layers and bring work gloves and safety glasses.
