Whether it’s a disaster at home or overseas, Samaritan’s Purse closely monitors catastrophic events to determine where and when we should respond with our teams of staff and volunteers.

We partner with churches in the communities where we respond to disasters, working together to share the love of Jesus Christ with people facing grief and uncertainty. The church acts as a home base by housing volunteers, storing equipment, and sharing information and insight about the community with Samaritan’s Purse staff.

We depend on volunteers to do much of the work and to minister to people as they help. That’s why we’re looking for committed Christians with varied talents and experience. Construction skills are useful but not necessary.

U.S. Disaster Relief

Since 1989, Samaritan’s Purse has responded to a variety of disasters, including tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, and floods, across more than half of the states. While focusing on the poor, elderly, and uninsured, Samaritan’s Purse works to meet the immediate needs of the homeowners by getting them back into their homes.

Each disaster response is different, but we typically spend time clearing debris, tarping roofs, searching for surviving personal items, falling potentially dangerous trees, and of course comforting homeowners by sharing the hope of Christ.

U.S. Rebuild Projects

After a disaster, sometimes so many homes are completely destroyed that Samaritan’s Purse transitions into a rebuild project for select people who lost their homes. Partnered with professional contractors, volunteers and homeowners join together to build a brand new home from the foundation up. After construction is completed, we dedicate the home by presenting the homeowners with a bill that says “Paid in Full,” because all the homes in a Samaritan’s Purse Rebuild project are a free gift.

Whether building churches where believers can worship the Lord and minister to their communities, hospitals where Christian medical professional can care for the sick, or houses for victims of natural disaster, Samaritan’s Purse reaches out internationally, bringing the love of God to the edges of the world. We partner with local churches and our international field offices, while also accepting volunteers for our construction projects that help build up the body of Christ around the world.
