Project Description: Volunteers will work on new home construction in Edgecombe County, NC.
Background Information: Hurricane Matthew tracked along the east coast of the United Sates in October 2016. While only a category 1 hurricane by the time it made landfall in North Carolina, the storm still produced heavy winds and even heavier rain totals. Much of Eastern North Carolina was affected by flooding. Homeowners in communities across Edgecombe County were devastated by the record flood levels, many of whom experienced these levels for the second time in the past 20 years. During the disaster response Samaritan’s Purse volunteers came to Edgecombe County to assist homeowners with removing damaged belongings as well as tearing out water damaged flooring and drywall in their homes. Rebuild volunteers will work on new home construction projects.
Additional Information: Individual volunteers are welcome. Teams should be organized before contacting us in order to provide the number of team members and dates available on the Volunteer Registration form. Meals and sleeping quarters will be provided. Volunteers need to bring linens/sleeping bag, pillow, towels and personal hygiene items. Tools will be provided, but volunteers may bring their own tool belts and small hand tools.
